If Sony brought this back, and they followed the PS2 era formula, they're selling consoles. This was a game so deep and fun that people would skip work and school to play it. We used to call it Socrack cause it got so intense when you got the clan online together. It was so notable that Wu Tang and Method Man afiliate rapper Streetlife made a song about it.
I still think it was so far ahead of the curb in features that no online multiplayer shooter to date has yet to match it. Never felt the same with any other game series except maybe Battlefield 3 at its peak. Sadly the series was a failure on the PS3. First game on that generation was plagued with tons of technical issues and a terrible physics engine by a developer who was quite inept. Then when the company who created the series took over again, they decided to take everything unique about the series away in favor of making it a generic third person shooter with health regen, magnet sticking cover system, elimination of crosshairs in favor of a recoil cone and other Frankenstein ideas. Pretty much killed the franchise because they did what BioWare does now; fogot what made them great and claimed they listened to fan criticism while doing the exact opposite of what people were asking. I've met quite a few friends with this series (was even a best man for one of my buddies) and had many great memories.
