I have an Origins playthrough I started a year ago I have yet to finish. I've done that like 3 times with the game. Maybe I lack the patience with the real time/pause combat. Alistair is hard to beat as companions go. I also like Leliana.

The pause combat sometimes is a pain and can slow combat down. I like to issue new commands to the companions during pause.

I've finished DAO and the expansion a few times. I used the skip the fade mod (I think that's what it's called) after the first playthrough. That was too tedious to be enjoyable for me. The Deep Roads kinda dragged on and got old. I don't remember if it was monotony, depressing, or what the specific reason was. My favorite companion was probably Shale. I liked his voice acting and the lines he spoke. I remember in one of my playthroughs I tricked Loghain into sleeping with Morrigan. I was laughing watching the cutscene.

It seems I recall that you can play DAO without pausing combat if you want to. Is that true? It's been good while since I played.

Heard that too. I've played some battles without pausing but for me it works better and I can change tactics to fit the battle in an instant rather than changing it in tactic menu. Morrigan: winter's grasp on the darkspawn emissary now! I always have a character somewhere in Ferelden

catilinaAbout Meredith and On the Loose quest. Is it that she lost respect as Knight Commander and none of the Templars would help her find the missing mages or was it a test for Hawke?

I think she's not lying about that Hawke probably more trustworthy int the eyes of Emile's family, the Alienage elves and Darktown people than she and her Templars. But it not totally excluded, it's a test. She doesn't trust anyone. In my Hawkes case, she's not right. my Hawkes mostly totally honest with her, they give to Emile some days for a run, and when he's already in a safe distance. they tell Meredith they let him go. This is foolish but very satisfying.
