One is a heartless, bloodthirsty killer. The other is a vampire. A 2016 Dragon Award Finalist
Amanda Colt spends her days alone. She prefers solitude to other people, rarely finding anyone to catch her interest. Books and fencing fill her time.
Until she meets Marco. He doesn’t fit in, just like her. In fact, he seems to be a man out of time. With medieval manners, a gang that fears him, and a mind like a computer, Amanda has never met anyone like him. But for all his magnetic appeal, she can tell he’s hiding something from her.
But Amanda has a secret too. And as she and Marco grow closer, it plunges them into New York’s supernatural underworld. Marco brings mayhem and romance to Amanda’s serene world, and she finds herself falling for him, faults and all.
Bodies are turning up all over New York. Only Amanda and Marco can stem the flow of corpses, and more and more vampires are rising every night.
Can Amanda and Marco save New York?
Or even scarier, admit their growing feelings for one another?I kinda expected a run-of-the-mill urban fantasy/vampire romance based on the description. And it is. Sort of. But I must say I'm finding the concept used for vampires in this setting to be quite interesting. It leaves room for lots of different "types" of vampires (but not sparkling ones!) An unusual amount of Catholic philosophy for its genre too.

Pressed into service when World War II breaks out in the Pacific, the US Walker—a Great War-era destroyer—finds itself retreating from pursuing Japanese battleships. Its captain, Lieutenant Commander Matthew Patrick Reddy, desperately leads the Walker into a squall, hoping it will give them cover—only to emerge into an alternate world. A world where two species have evolved: the cat-like Lemurians and the reptilian Griks, and they are at war.
With its power and weaponry, the Walker's very existence could alter the balance of power. And for Reddy and his crew, who have the means to turn a primitive war into a genocidal Armageddon, one thing becomes clear. They must determine whose side they're on. Because whichever species they choose is the winner. I was looking at that only recently on Kindle store, let me know how it is. My first thought was a flashback to a cheesy TV show or movie ages ago where a navy ship enters a time slip in The Bermuda triangle or something, can't remember what it was called. EDIT: just looked it up it was called The Final Countdown 1980 and they were experimenting with making ships invisible and it goes back to 1941. Did you read the books by S,M, Stirling the author quoted on the cover The Emberverse series? The first few were really great then descended into a bit stupid.

I think I saw The Final Countdown many, many years ago. I finished the book, and saw it's the first of a series that's FIFTEEN BOOKS and counting! Interesting premise. It's not time-travel, the ship has crossed over into a parallel Earth, where it seems dinosaurs never went extinct, and humans never developed. Instead two separate sapient life forms have arisen, one from raptor-like dinosaurs, and one that arose from lemurs. And what's more, it seems that these characters aren't the first humans to find their way into this reality. It might be just because this is the first book, but there were an awful lot of characters to keep track of. And the pov seemed to change at the drop of a hat. Might get easier in later books as I get a handle on the characters (and perhaps as more characters get eaten) Never read the Emberverse books. Heard of them, but yeah I heard the series went stupid.

I'm backing this. The books are a good series. A slightly more "realistic" zombie apocalypse.

Another comic I'm backing:
Ignore the cheesecake picture (it's a variant cover). Flying Sparks is a good comic. Been following it since the beginning.

Dang fifteen books, I am enjoying Dresden Books but have not been reading as much lately due to RL stuff. On book 6 I think, I wish he would be more consistent with the other characters and not have one or two drop in or out of the books each one. Yeah but the thought of finishing 16 of these in a row and then picking up another 15 book series is a bit daunting but it does sound interesting.

In the Dresden Files, Thomas and Murphy are reliably important characters, as well as a third character whom you have already briefly met at this point, but starting in book 8 will become very important (won't spoil it) Also, every book divisible by 5, Michael will be important. I don't know how or why this pattern happens, but it just does. Books 5, 10, and 15 (though he does feature in others)

It's decent but hard to read in some respects. It's an anthology so I read other books between stories in this one.

I read the Malus Darkblade series a little while back and actually liked them although the non-stop action did grate on my nerves at times - Daemon's Curse, Bloodstorm, Reaper of Souls, Warpsword, Lord of Ruin. Malus surprisingly grew a little teeny tiny bit by the end of the series, as much as a sociopathic sadist can? I was weirdly rooting for him by the end, at least when I wasn't thinking back to the beginning of him cutting a woman's face off and giving her to his soldiers to torture and who knows what else There was a good amount of witty dark humor which I liked, from Malus but especially from Hauclir who was kind of the real charmer of the series. I have to say though, I'm not entirely sure how Druchii society doesn't completely collapse with all their mustache twirlingly evil degeneracy. Now I'm going to be moving on to King emo, but I get the feeling this won't be as fun.

Proving to be a good noirish scifi mystery. And a much more interesting take on personal AIs than SAM from MEA was. After a devastating galactic war, disgraced veteran Ralston Muck ekes out a living as a bouncer at Last Stop Station’s premier nightclub, A Curtain of Stars. Night after night he listens to the club’s star performer, Siren, sing her memories and ease some of his aching loss. But when Siren goes missing, Muck finds himself drawn into a world of dirty cops, drug lords, and conspiracies that trace back to the war itself.
The only person he can trust isn’t even human. Angel, Siren’s personal AI, was ripped from the singer’s mind the night Siren disappeared. With no idea what has happened to her human host, and pursued by a killer virus, Angel flees to Muck for answers.
Together they struggle to comprehend the conspiracy that entangles both their lives. Can Muck and the angel on his shoulder recover Siren before it’s too late? Or will he lose everything that matters to him one more time?

The Great Extermination has begun.
In the Capitol, Grand Inquisitor Omand Vokkan hatches a plot to kill every member of the untouchable caste in all of Lok, down to the last man, woman, and child. As a member of the Order of Inquisition, Vokkan has no official say in the creation of Law, but he has powerful allies willing to do his bidding. Through them, he has convinced the Judges that the genocide will be swift, complete, and without complication. Nothing is further from the truth.
Lord Protector Devedas has sworn to uphold the Law. Once, he and the traitor Ashok Vadal had been like brothers. Now, he hunts Vadal and the Sons of the Black Sword, heretics and rebels who seek to live outside the rule of the Law. All Devedas must do is find and kill his best friend and order will be restored to Lok.
The rebels seek the secret kingdom spoken of by the Prophet Thera, a paradise where water is pure and food plentiful, where there are no castes, where the people rule themselves, and are not slaves to the Capitol. Ashok Vadal is not sure he believes in such a paradise, but he—along with his allies—do seek refuge in the rebellion’s hideout in Akershan. But Vadal, a former High Protector who has turned his back on the corrupt Law, will not merely wait meekly, hoping that fleeing to Akershan will spare the rebellion from the clutches of the Great Extermination. No, if it’s a war the Capitol wants, Vadal, who has faced down gods and demons, will be all too willing to give it to them.
