I'm liking this game so far, it has heart. Took 3 tries to figure out how to kill the first beast at the dock, once I got the hang of how to use the skills and changed her coat from her finery to a more sturdy coat, the battle went quickly. Picked up Vasco as a second companion. I thought Kurt would say something about looting, but he seemed fine, so I looted everything Steady aim for the kill: These guys freak me out :

It seems every time I try to leave New Serene, Vasco or Kurt has a new quest for me...

Do you guys know how to bind a key for the main skill. For instance setting a trap somehow got binded to 11. I want to change it to 3. Apply potion to weapon I can't seem to figure out how to bind it to 4. I've checked around but no guide seems to say anything about how to go about binding a skill.

The skill set is a bit odd and I can't figure out how to bind the skills to the keys. Fast travel is overly long, but it does have a merchant to buy and sell. Run out of ammo quickly and find have to go back to the main city to buy and loot for more. But overall, I'm enjoying the story. Right now she's waiting to go to the negotiations. Siora doesn't have a good feeling, so went back to the city for more ammo just in case. First time out of New Serene, looking back at the city: Found a place of power!: Charge!: Hikmet:

kotaku.com/greedfall-the-kotaku-review-1838184404The greatest problem is Greedfall’s inability to do anything with its colonial setting. The landscapes of Teer Fradee are gorgeous, but in adopting the imagery and pageantry of the 18th century, Greedfall inextricably ties itself to that era’s problems. You cannot simply, as Gredefall often does, have people in funny hats or Inquisitors choking “savages” and assume that putting these things on display is sufficient commentary. The iconography of colonial conquest demands a reckoning. Greedfall has pretensions of commenting on its setting but does not muster a meaningful statement. From time to time, a settler might do something questionable and Siora—your only native companion—might say something like, “And they dare to call us savages?” There are zealous fanatics whose plots you end, but these are always the works of rogue actors rather than a systemic issue inherent to church doctrines. Whenever Greedfall starts to say something, it inevitably undercuts itself. So the problem with th egame is it isn't anti-colonial enough?

slimgrin,@dustyelf, Iakus, Have you finished it? If you have or when you do, would you mind giving a brief review, or a lengthy one if it suits your fancy?

I'll review it when I've completed more of the game because I can already tell what the faults will be, it's just a matter of how prevalent they are.

slimgrin ,@dustyelf , Iakus , Have you finished it? If you have or when you do, would you mind giving a brief review, or a lengthy one if it suits your fancy? Haven't finished it yet. Almost. About 20 or so hours in and enjoying the game. So far reminds me a lot of DAO with hub areas and quests relating to the hub areas but also the main quest. Think they've done a very good job with the quests. Some of the areas in the hubs are blocked until you access the quest which makes sense. Combat is fun and flowing with a nice tactical pause where you can throw a trap or oil poison on your weapon or take a fury potion. Right now am in the middle of Kurt's quest, he is a companion, and it's a very sad moving questline that can end badly or not. The world is pretty and seems just like they advertised, taken out of an old painting. Inventory is similar to their other games. Companions are their own and have improved from Bound by Flame.
The negatives so far I think are that I can't bind a key for the skills, but I may have missed that in the prologue. Not being able to bind the side mouse buttons. And points you need for talents like science, lock picking and agility I think it is are too few and spread out. It would be better to have more points in those and get them each time you level up.
I'll see if I feel the same after the ending but right now having a blast playing it.

I'm actually using an Xbox controller plugged into my pc for this. I'm 50 hours in and think I'm closing in on the endgame (I've spent a lot of time wandering around in the wilderness tracking down question marks on the map. The main character is more Adam Jensen than Hero of Ferelden ie, a set character rather than a blank slate, which is a bit of a negative for me. But not a huge one. Almost every quest has more than one solution, so how you solve it can depend on how you built your character. Dustyelf is right, it is a very pretty world they've made.

Yes, Adam Jensen is more fitting than the HOF. De Sardet is always the diplomat and it seems that to do something that is against that role wouldn't seem right. As in the scene described in the Kotaku article when the Inquisitor kills the native and burns the beast. Me, I wanted to save the native, set a trap and use the sword on the inquisitor, and then run to the beast and free him - it would have been a choice but wouldn't have made sense for a diplomat to do that in another territory. How do you find the the xbox controller? Wonder which is best to use for this game, keyboard and mouse or controller. Might have to try controller.

I found that some games are REALLY poorly optimized for keyboard+Mouse. Though I still use that for a lot of games.

I would agree the quests so far are well done. The writing in general is solid.

Finally finished Greedfall. Overall I liked it and will play it again. Combat was fun. The voice overs were fantastic. Loved the female De Sardet voice. Companions all had their own personalities with good personal quests. The side quests and the main quests meshed together making it a good solid story. The environment was pretty and made me want to explore just over there a bit. Great fun to be back in a small game and to be sort of directed along as the story went.
De Sardet and the story reminded me a bit of Hawke, no matter how much De Sardet tried, things got fucked and some things worked out well.
What I didn't like was some quests were bugged and that impacted the ending a bit. Going to a quest marker only to find I needed to craft something and go all the way back to a camp or craft table, kind of annoying. Also annoying was that some quests failed, not sure if it was by design, but when given a bunch of quests at once, I have to choose, if that fails another it should be noted somewhere that that will happen. It's minor though.
Anyway it's a great fun game with a good story and companions and the combat is fun.

I'm going to fangirl here a bit. On another forum we were talking about BioWare LI's and what we would wish for in their next game. I said I would like an LI companion whose personal quest wasn't about him/her but to help a village or an old team mate. Would wish for the companion to be thinking of someone else other then themselves. Well Spiders hit the mark perfectly in Kurt. Not only does he has that voice, give him a good sword and stand back to watch, his personal quest was to right a wrong for his lost recruit and give him peace. Also need to say Spiders did an excellent job with keeping the romance a nice, fun side quest and not the focus of the game. Well done! Here's Kurt without his helmet:
