Faceman , Laughing Man , Onecrazymonkey1 , slimgrin , Onishiro , Sundance I finally got around to completing Blood & Wine. I had fun playing it. It's a good sized expansion with a whole new region and nice additions to the mechanics. Like the base game I left quite a few secondary quests for another playthrough. I've played the base game and both expansions now. The amount of content is huge. This game offers more bang for your buck than any other RPG that I'm aware of, a lot more. I'm glad you enjoyed it, what did you think of blood and wines story? I ended up letting syanna get offed in the end. Mainly because I didn't want Regis to be hunted, secondly I didn't want Syanna getting absolved of all the damage she caused, especially since I didn't trust Anna to not let Syanna get off easy. I was also completely tired of Anna's bullshit and told her she should send her beagles after the higher vampire, because she obviously knew so much about them . As for Dettlaff? while I felt for him in the beginning, I originally wanted to put him down for having a temper tantrum that led to him murdering innocent people. Even still, I stayed my hand I let him go free, Regis (who was my main concern) would be fine and would watch over him. Besides, after everything that happened I doubted that Dettlaff would want to enter into human society again. I'm not sure I made the right choice but it was the ending that troubled me the least. I just don't like how it all depended on Syanna's ribbon.

I don't think Syanna or Detlaff are good villains...but they have weird things in common. They're both impetuous, spoiled brats. Syanna is basically a Renfri clone from the books, which means she might indeed be a cursed girl, acting beyond her own will. And Detlaff is exactly the same. My story complaints revolve around them but I wonder how much was by design.

I just don't like how it all depended on Syanna's ribbon. It seems like the story held together fairly well to me. I remember not knowing exactly what was going on for a little while, but that's a good thing in this case. It kept things from being easily predictable, at least for me anyway. SPOILERS I got smart with Anna too in that scene. I got Syanna's ribbon for her. All three died in mine. I looked it up and the difference in my case was one particular line that had to be chosen when you talk to Syanna while she's under guard. I didn't choose to ask her if she can forgive her sister. If I had done that both of those two would have lived. I feel the same about Dettliff. I didn't think I had a choice with him in my playthrough. I had to fight him and kill him. Actually Regis gave him final death. I don't recall having an option to spare him. Even if I did I wouldn't have.

CDPR did a fantastic job in designing quests (with the exception of Reason of State) that went with the story, theme and Geralt's profession. Not sure but think it's the only game I've played where you go back after completing a quest and see what the results and/or impact at least of some of the quests.
One playthrough isn't enough to get your fill with there being so many different outcomes. Why do you think Reason of State was bad quest design?

Yeah the different outcomes on quests and the ending is one of things that made it so much fun and re-playable for me. Reason of State - the quest seemed to come out of blue, too short to believe, thought Roche and Dijkstra were too smart to end fighting it out to the death. For Geralt thought kinglsaying or being a part of a plot to kill a king seemed out of character unless he was forced to and then Geralt choosing who would win was disappointing and thought they could have handled it better. (didn't like the Inquisitor deciding Celene's fate either.) It seems too much power for the character to have. Nova, Did you like the ending you chose and what did you think of the combat? There's been a lot of talk about the clunkiness of The Witcher games combat but I thought it was the one of the most fun combats I've played in a fantasy game.

To be fair that's not the first time the Witcher's actions have had an impact on the political map of the continent...just ask Duny.

I found the end of the base game to be a bit underwhelming. I had expected a little more presentation with Yennifer involved in my ending and it wasn't there. They ended up implementing that in the end of Blood and Wine. EDIT: Blood and Wine can easily be treated as Act IV. So it fits in good and can be treated as Geralt's final ending in TW3.

I might download TW2 and give it another playthrough to see how well it has held up. TW 1 had some diamonds in the ruff, but it was 2nd rate generally speaking.
@dustyelf , I like the combat well enough. I haven't explored different build options so I don't know if it's balanced or not. I cast signs more often as the game went on. I didn't do a lot of dodging. Instead I did a lot of rolling through a good portion of the game like I did in TW 2. I'm gonna change the hotkey for dodge and switch to using it more.

I liked the swords the best but still use the potions, oils and signs. Found the sign build slow at the start but it quickly gathers strength. Mostly use the light armor.

I tried light armor and thought my stamina regen would be better, but it wasn't. It seemed worse. I then realized that the Griffon School Techniques general ability for wearing medium armor was the difference. So I switched back to medium. I started using potions more as the game went on. I resisted using a mod that automatically applies oils, but after a while the process became tedious enough and I would often forget to apply them as well, so I relented. What was one of your favorite quests? One that sticks out to me is Wandering in the Dark with Keira Metz. The mystery and suspense kept me pretty interested. Plus going through ancient ruins and discovering things if fun generally speaking. I didn't think it made much sense that Keira walked around in the ruins barefoot though.

I found applying the oils and using potions makes the combat easier and the time to defeat quicker, sometimes I would not use them to make the combat last longer, dodging and rolling helped a lot. I love the combat music, somewhere a long the way the changed the timing of the music to delay it a bit once the combat starts, so I try now to keep the combat going longer just to hear the music logner (well that and the combat is fun). HEH. Oh loved Wandering the Dark, so many beast and twists in the ruins, puzzles to open doors and Keira and her magic invisible shoes! Wished she was in it more. Always invite her back to Kaer Morhen.
My favorite quests are still the Bloody Baron questline, and Scenes from a Marriage in HOS. They are done so well and there is so much packed in them.
Other ones are the one White Orchard there is a man who asks Geralt for help to find his brother in the battlefield. The quest I think it's called Through Time and Space where Avallac'h and Geralt travel, and when Ciri meets the little girl and Yenn and Geralts quest to find the jinn, when the boys fight the Wild hunt at Kaer Mohren, that entire quest.
Then there's the fun ones like the one where Geralt tries to get the monk to talk and the cemetery one with the Doctor Who angels and herding Pellars goat with Geralt giving comentary - lol.
Err sorry, that's more than one.

There is this crazy quest on the far right side of the map which involves a dead girl and her father I think. And exploring a creepy house. It totally caught me off guard. I turn the quest markers off and it really does make exploration better.

No. But I hated the scene where Geralt beats him up without my permission. That was a crucial roleplay moment.

Junior tortured and murdered all those women. Geralt killed him every time. As Geralt said a number of times there are humans who are monsters.

I always kill him, I youtubed the outcome if you don't and I thought it was weak, people said that he ended up getting worse if you let him live but not in my opinion. I'd feel really guilty letting that monster loose.

What was the toughest decision? I don't think TW3 had the same kind of tension TW2 had with the decisions.
