After Halley’s Comet was destroyed in a magical battle in 1759, the backlash separated the entire New World from the Old in an event known as The Sundering. Now isolated from the rest of the globe, America has become a very different place, where magic works and history has been changed forever.
It is 1803—a new 1803. Young Meriwether Lewis, footloose and intrigued, goes to hear a lecture in St. Louis by the venerated old wizard Benjamin Franklin. Franklin’s talk is disrupted by the attack of a winged fire-breathing beast, much like legends from Lewis’s own Welsh heritage. In the aftermath, Franklin tells the young man that he knows of a great, growing evil that lurks in the uncharted Arcane Territories west of the Mississippi.
Using his own vast fortune, Franklin commissions Lewis and his own talented partner William Clark to embark on a remarkable voyage of exploration, to meet and document the indigenous tribes, to find a route all the way to the Pacific Ocean—and perhaps beyond the magical veil to Europe again—and to stop the growing evil that is filling the American West. For while the Sundering separated the rest of the world and granted the original colonists unexpected magical gifts, sorcery inspired by native legends has also been ignited. And the Arcane Territories may hold unparalleled dangers for the expedition, both natural and magical.
Accompanied by the brilliant shape-shifting sorceress Sacajawea, Lewis and Clark set off on an unparalleled adventure across a landscape that no European has ever seen.

Finally snagged this: Dark Horse lost the rights to Conan and Marvel reacquired them. So, anything Conan by Dark Horse is likely to soon go out of print and I'm trying to get what I can before it all dries up. This one is pretty good. The story is your typical Conan adventure, but the artwork is where its at. One of my biggest concerns with Marvel getting Conan back is that we won't see the level of blood and graphic material present in the Dark Horse comics. They weren't afraid to show the gritty stuff and I'm sure Marvel will shy away from this.

Although I've already posted these elsewhere <.< I'm also posting them here because they're an amazing wealth of information on Franz liszt. It wouldn't be me if I didn't post them. Alan walker is the best Liszt scholar/biographer out there and it took him around 25 years to write these three volumes covering the genius composer's entire life. They're exceptionally detailed and well done. {Spoiler} {Spoiler} {Spoiler} The latest one I just finished. You get an inside look on his last moments and frankly it was a bit depressing. He was poorly mistreated and deserved a better end. A good book by Oliver Hilmes that goes into Liszt's personal life more so then his music but still very interesting. Another one by Oliver Hilmes on Liszt's daughter Cosima, which I'll be starting soon. I'm a nut and I'm not ashamed honestly. I had to get this post out of my system.

I'm currently reading this
For anybody who enjoys fantasy, the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series is excellent.

I like the way he writes and thinks especially when discussing religion. He stands back, calmly analyzes.

This has been on my "to read" list for a while. FInally getting around to trying th efirst book of the Repairman Jack series: Much to the chagrin of his girlfriend, Gia, Repairman Jack doesn't deal with electronic appliances—he fixes situations for people, situations that usually involve putting himself in deadly danger. His latest project is recovering a stolen necklace, which carries with it an ancient curse that may unleash a horde of Bengali demons. Jack is used to danger, but this time Gia's daughter Vicky is threatened. Can Jack overcome the curse of the yellow necklace and bring Vicky safely back home?

I highly recommend this author, and this series is one of his best: Ashok Vadal was once a member of the highest caste in all of Lok. As a Protector, he devoted his life to upholding the Law, rooting out those who still practiced the old ways and delivering swift justice with his ancestor blade Angruvadal. None was more merciless than he in stamping out the lingering belief in gods and demons among the casteless. His brutality was legendary and celebrated.
But soon Ashok learned that his life to that point had been a lie. He himself, senior member of the Protector Order, was casteless. He had been nothing more than an unwitting pawn in a political game. His world turned upside down and finding himself on the wrong side of the Law, he began a campaign of rebellion, war, and destruction unlike any Lok had ever seen.
Thera had been first daughter of Vane. A member of the Warrior Order, she had spent her life training for combat. Until a strange sight in the heavens appeared one day. Thera was struck by lighting and from that day forward she heard the Voice. A reluctant prophet with the power to see into the future, she fought alongside Ashok Vadal and his company of men known as the Sons of the Black Sword until a shapeshifting wizard with designs on her powers of precognition spirited her away. He holds her prisoner in the House of Assassins.
Ashok Vadal and the Sons of the Black Sword march to rescue Thera. With his sword Angruvadal, Ashok was unstoppable. But Angruvadal is gone, shattered to pieces on the demon possessed husk of a warrior. Now, Ashok must fight without the aid of the magic blade for the first time. Thera’s life depends on it.
But there is much more at risk in the continent of Lok. Strange forces are working behind the scenes. Ashok Vadal and the Sons of the Black Sword are caught up in a game they do not fully understand, with powerful forces allied against them.
Ashok no longer knows what to believe. He is beginning to think perhaps the gods really do exist.
If so, he’s warned them to stay out of his way.
They would do well to listen.

I tried to read some gay romance story (Wanting). Free on Amazon. Well, you often get what you pay for. I already didn't like it from the very first sentence. A few pages in made me put it down permanently. I gave it a one star on Amazon and Goodreads. It's unreadable and I don't often give such a low rating. I hate to say it but most m/m romance (not sex books) written by women are lacking. It's more fetish for them rather than coming from a place of a developing relationship. Ironically, switched to another gay romance-y book, but well done and the third in a series (triogy?). The writer really took time with this. Not explicit sex scenes. All fade to black, which I think shows you what the writer sees as most important.

Here are some books from my shelf. I am missing a few critical ones, like "1984", "Animal Farm" and "Fahrenheit 451". I've read them all but would prefer hard copies over e-books. Incidentally, I think the backlash over third wave feminism and a decline in babies being born ( Americans aren't making enough babies to replace ourselves) might lead to "The Handmaid's Tale", or at least something along those lines that forces women to have children. EDIT: Never put the books in!
And as long as I'm adding the other pic, I have a new one with the missing books.
